Prestressed Concrete Strands
Classification :
PRODUCT DETAILS
I. Description
Prestressed steel strand is a flexible material made by twisting together multiple high-strength steel wires. Prestressed (anchored after tensioning) is used to enhance the load-bearing capacity and crack resistance of concrete structures. It is bundled and can be coated as needed. It is widely used in bridges, buildings, and water conservancy projects.

II. Material
The core material of prestressed steel strand is high-strength, low-relaxation steel wire, primarily made from high-quality carbon structural steel (such as 82B steel). Its carbon content is controlled between 0.75% and 0.85%. It undergoes heat treatment processes such as quenching and tempering to enhance its strength and toughness.
Key performance indicators: Tensile strength is typically ≥1860 MPa (common grades are 1860 MPa and 2000 MPa), high yield strength, elongation ≥3.5%, and low relaxation (minimal stress loss under sustained loads), ensuring long-term, stable prestressing.
Surface Treatment: Depending on the environment of use, strands can be classified as smooth (suitable for dry environments), galvanized (for enhanced corrosion resistance, suitable for wet or outdoor applications), and coated (coated with epoxy resin or grease, suitable for use in severely corrosive environments such as marine engineering and sewage treatment plants).
III. Structural Details
Twist Method:
Conventional strands consist of seven steel wires (one center wire + six outer wires). The outer wires are twisted helically around the center wire. The lay pitch (the distance between adjacent wire helices) is typically 12-16 times the strand diameter to ensure uniform stress distribution.
Specifications:
Common diameters include 15.2mm, 12.7mm, and 17.8mm. The length of each strand can be customized to project requirements (e.g., 6m to 100m or longer). The breaking force of a single strand can reach over 260kN (15.2mm gauge), meeting the prestressing requirements of different load levels.
IV. Our Advantages
Ultra-High Strength, Weight Reduction and Efficiency Enhancement:
With a tensile strength 3-5 times that of ordinary steel, prestressing in concrete structures can partially offset the tensile forces generated by external loads, reducing the structural cross-section and deadweight, while also improving the structural span capacity (e.g., long-span bridges and high-rise buildings).
Low Relaxation, Stable Performance:
After stabilization, stress loss is minimal (relaxation rate ≤ 2.5%) over long-term use, ensuring long-term reliability of the prestressing effect and preventing cracking and deformation due to stress decay.
Excellent Flexibility, Convenient Construction:
The bundle structure offers excellent flexibility, adapting to the tensioning requirements of curved components (e.g., bridge arch ribs and box girders). The moderate weight of a single bundle facilitates transportation, bundle threading, and tensioning, improving construction efficiency.
High Durability, Wide Application:
Combined with anti-corrosion treatment (galvanizing, coating) and specialized grouting techniques, it effectively resists environmental corrosion (e.g., rainwater, seawater, and industrial waste gas), making it suitable for long-term, major projects such as bridges, nuclear power plants, and hydropower dams.
